307 307 Temporary Redirect

Like 302, but the request method must not change.

When you'll see it

When a URL is temporarily somewhere else and the request must stay as it is. Sites using HSTS also show an internal 307 in the browser when going from HTTP to HTTPS.

What to check

  • The difference from 302: with a 307, a POST stays a POST and keeps its body, so use it for uploads and API calls.
  • That the client may send the body again. Large uploads are sent twice unless the client waits for a 100 Continue.
  • If it's permanent, use 308 instead.

Example response

HTTP/1.1 307 Temporary Redirect
Location: https://eu.example.com/api/upload

SEO impact

Same SEO behavior as 302. Google treats it as a temporary redirect.
