Why convert WEBP to PNG?
WEBP is what most websites — and Google Images — serve by default now, since it compresses smaller than PNG or JPG at similar quality. But not every image editor, presentation tool, or older piece of software can open it yet. PNG is the safe, universally supported fallback.
Supported formats
This page defaults to WEBP in, PNG out, but the tool itself opens PNG, JPG/JPEG, WEBP, GIF, BMP, AVIF, SVG, HEIC/HEIF, or PDF, and can convert to PNG, JPG, WEBP, ICO, or PDF — change the output format in the Convert tab any time.
Frequently asked questions
Why do images I save from the web come as WEBP?
Most sites now serve WEBP automatically to save bandwidth, since virtually all modern browsers support displaying it. Software that opens files locally hasn't all caught up yet, which is usually when you need a PNG copy instead.
Does converting WEBP to PNG keep transparency?
Yes — PNG supports transparency the same way WEBP does, so any transparent areas in the source carry over exactly, with no quality loss since PNG is lossless.
Are my images uploaded to a server?
No. Every conversion and edit happens locally in your browser using the Canvas API and JavaScript. Files never leave your device.
